The depiction of a malicious leprechaun that was done by Warwick Davis has become the stuff of legends. In the movie, the leprechaun is under the impression that a group of people have taken his pot o' gold. He gathers all of his wits and resources to pursue and capture them in the act of hunting. In the meanwhile, the family is looking far and wide for the gold in an effort to appease the leprechaun and prevent him from causing them any more trouble. Because of Davis's spine-chilling and memorable performance, "Leprechaun" is considered to be among the very greatest horror movies ever made.

Film plot:
Dan O'Grady is originally from North Dakota, but in 1983 he went back to his country of birth, Ireland, where he abducted a leprechaun and stole his pot of gold. Once O'Grady hid the wealth, he learned that the evil leprechaun had followed him home and murdered his wife. With the help of a four-leaf clover, O'Grady restrains the leprechaun's powers and locks him up in a box. Before he could burn him, he had a stroke.
Ten years later, J. D. Redding and his teenage daughter Tory rent the O'Grady farmhouse for the summer. With the aid of contract workers Nathan Murphy, his 10-year-old brother Alex, and their dimwitted friend Ozzie Jones, the farmhouse is being repainted. While scouring the basement, Ozzie overhears the leprechaun's cry for help and misidentifies him as a child. By pulling the four-leaf clover from the box, he unleashes the leprechaun. Ozzie is informed by the leprechaun that he is an Irish cobbler who emigrated to America in quest of his riches. After failing to convince others that he had seen a leprechaun, Ozzie spots a rainbow and follows it in hopes of finding a pot of gold. Alex follows Ozzie out of worry for his well-being. A bag holding 100 gold coins magically appears before Ozzie. After Ozzie examines the gold and mistakenly swallows a coin, they conceal it in an ancient well in an attempt to cure Ozzie's brain.
The leprechaun at the farm tricks J. D. into falling into a trap by pretending to be a cat, biting and hurting his hand. The leprechaun rides a tricycle after Tory and the others bring him to the hospital. When Alex and Ozzie travel to a pawn shop to check the purity of the gold, the leprechaun murders the owner, Joe, for taking his gold and polishes Joe's shoes before escaping. On his journey back to the farmhouse, the leprechaun makes himself a little go-kart and is stopped by a policeman for speeding. The leprechaun pursues the police officer into the woods, where the leprechaun ultimately kills the cop. The leprechaun goes back to the farmhouse and looks for his treasure while shining every shoe he sees. The gang heads back to the farmhouse after dropping J. D. off at the hospital. When Nathan investigates outside after finding it looted, a leprechaun-set bear trap injures him. Outside, the group attacks the leprechaun and beats him with rocks and clubs.
As soon as they find a gun in the house, the leprechaun is ambushed and shot many times. They attempt to leave the property after it becomes clear that it won't work, but the leprechaun has already wrecked the engine of the vehicle. After crashing the car with the go-kart, the leprechaun causes the group to be in fear until Ozzie reveals to the leprechaun that he and Alex found the treasure chest. Tory is the one who descends into the well and retrieves the bag, which she subsequently presents to the leprechaun. They make their way to the hospital, certain that the worst is behind them. During the process of counting his fortune, the leprechaun learns that he is short one coin since Ozzie ate it. He threatens them since he is under the impression that they have tricked him, but Ozzie stops him by explaining that O'Grady had a stroke and was sent to a nursing home. The group is able to distract the leprechaun's attention when they throw dirty shoes at him. As a result, the leprechaun is compelled to go shine the shoes while Tory gets into her vehicle and drives away. Tory travels to the home in order to get information on how to kill the leprechaun.
The leprechaun assumes the identity of O'Grady in the nursing home. As Tory flees, the leprechaun tosses O'Grady's bleeding body down the elevator shaft after having followed him to an elevator. Before passing away, O'Grady advises her that the only way to kill the leprechaun is with a four-leaf clover, which grows in plenty outside the property. Tory returns to the farmhouse in search of a clover, but she is attacked by the leprechaun and rescued by Nathan and Ozzie. The leprechaun is gravely injured while trying to retrieve the last gold coin, which Ozzie admits to consuming. Alex takes a four-leaf clover uncovered by Tory, connects it to a piece of chewing gum, and shoots it into the leprechaun's mouth, causing him to evaporate before he can kill Ozzie. Despite plunging down the well, the leprechaun's skeleton emerges and proclaims, "I want my gold." After Nathan pushes the leprechaun back into the well, he ignites both artifacts with gasoline. Tory is reconciled with her father, marries Nathan, and has a child when the police arrive. It is well knowledge that George Lucas helped cast Warwick Davis in Willow. Less well-known is the reason behind this. Davis was apparently under contract with Lucas, and Lucas had to grant Davis permission to participate in the film. Due to his contributions, he received a "special thanks" credit at the conclusion of the film. This little-known truth makes the film much more intriguing for aficionados of horror films. Initially, the leprechaun was intended to return to Ireland. However, there was a problem: the Irish actor portraying the leprechaun, Warwick Davis, lacked a work visa.
